Wednesdays are always great for a mid week facial and a green smoothie. Now, you can compliment that facial internally with my Strawberry Papaya Green Smoothie!

Green smoothies have several benefits. For starters, they are a great way to get your daily servings of fruits and vegetables. They are also wonderful for cleansing, detoxing and getting your daily nutrients and antioxidants. Okay guys, I literally cannot go a day without drinking a green smoothie. It’s my daily ritual usually around dinner time because I’m not a huge fan of eating salads. So it’s quite convenient throwing fruits and vegetables into a blender and gulping away!

Apart from green smoothies being a good source of antioxidants and vitamins, they are also a good way to clear or heal your skin! I can definitely account for this because I have struggled with acne, oily skin and melasma my entire life. However, with laser treatments, a clean diet and green smoothies, my skin has made a 180 improvement. For those of you who are looking for an additional method to heal your skin from acne, black heads or blemishes, I would strongly recommend this strawberry papaya green smoothie. After all, it all starts from the inside! My recommendation is only based on research and personal experience. I’m not a licensed dermatologist so kindly view this as an option or something to add to your to-do list.

IMG_2430

All the ingredients in this strawberry papaya green smoothie play a role. Since I drink a green smoothie everyday, I always mix up the ingredients to make it more fun. Although my veggie base is usually kale and spinach, I mix up the fruit and always add a superfood! Here’s a breakdown of the ingredients used in this green smoothie:

Strawberries: Strawberries are acidic in nature and this is effective to remove the excess oily secretion on skin. Strawberries are also very efficient in lightening blemishes and acne scars! You could either blend them in a smoothie or mash them up and use them as a face mask. This green smoothie contains ½ cup sliced strawberries.

Papaya: One of my favourite fruits of all time! Papaya not only cleanses your skin but also make your skin glow. It contains rejuvenating enzymes that exfoliate your skin to provide you with a glowing complexion. It’s loaded with papain and vitamin A. The enzyme papain breaks down inactive proteins and eliminates dead skin cells. The vitamin A works as an anti-oxidant. This green smoothie contains 1 cup chopped papaya.

IMG_2442-2

Kale: Kale is low in calories, high in fiber and has zero fat. It is also great for aiding in digestion with its great fiber content. Kale is filled with so many nutrients, vitamins, folate and magnesium. This green smoothie contains 2 cups kale leaves.

Spinach: Low in fat and even lower in cholesterol, spinach is high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese. Basically, spinach is a perfect vegetable and the flavor blends in well with smoothies and other savory foods! This green smoothie contains 1 cup baby spinach leaves.

Flaxseeds: Very high in fiber and Omega 3 fatty acids which are good fats. I used 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal.

Coconut water: An amazing beverage which is low in calories and contains electrolytes. It’s basically natures Gatorade. Coconut water is packed with antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, B-complex vitamins, and vitamin C. this green smoothie contains 2 cups coconut water.

Excuse the lengthy article, but I want you guys to enjoy all the wonderful benefits of green smoothies as much as I do! Cheers to a green week!

Green smoothies are amazing! But a good way to kick start your metabolism for the week is by starting your morning with a green smoothie. Frankly, any green smoothie you make is essential to promoting a boost in your metabolism and a healthy gut among others. However, this green smoothie has some extra ingredients that will focus on boosting your metabolism and also promoting weight loss.

FullSizeRender

If your metabolism is slower due to a thyroid or health condition or lack of exercise, it will be difficult to to lose weight or inches no matter how hard you try. It is also not a good idea to starve yourself, as that will only worsen the situation. This smoothie recipe will help you enhance digestion and trigger your metabolism to work much more effectively. It will also aid in losing belly fat. The pineapple chunks and the apple cider vinegar contain a natural acidity which aids in burning stubborn belly fat. Sometimes, the natural acids produced in your stomach isn’t always enough to break down your food and get rid of unwanted fat. Therefore, the addition of the pineapple and the apple cider definitely helps. The spinach and kale aid in bowel movement, or as I like to call it, natures very own laxative. Ingredients include:

2 cups ripe pineapple chunks🍍
1 frozen banana🍌
A handful of kale🌿
A handful of spinach🍃
Half a bunch of parsley🍃
2 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar🍎
1 tbsp raw honey (optional)🍯
2-4 cups of water (or freshly squeezed orange juice)🍊

Puree all ingredients in a blender and serve. This yields 2 servings.

Good morning! It’s Monday yet again and it feels like the weekend just flew by! With the way this winter weather has been fluctuating, it’s very easy for our immune system to get compromised, so I find that an effective way to keep your immune system functioning at its best is to load up on vitamin C, and of course lots of fruits and veggies. Detox Thursdays anyone? I usually save my cheat days for the weekend, but like any other event as I would like to call it, I always prepare myself. Part of eating clean and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is knowing how to find efficient methods to incorporate your daily doses of fruits and vegetables into your regimen, and the best methods I’ve come across so far are through juicing and green smoothies. Frankly, I don’t count calories (it’s a huge waste of time), and I don’t calculate the amount or percentage of fruits and vegetables I need to consume on a daily basis, that seems like a full time job, and I already have one, so moving on lol……

20131212-101733.jpg

How do I incorporate fruits and vegetables into my diet? Easy! I always make sure I have a fruity green smoothie everyday, I juice twice a week, and I try to have a salad or any other type of root vegetable with my lunch or dinner. Trust me, it’s not so bad, your body will get used to it and plus they taste great depending on how you make them! So your tastebuds will thank you as well 🙂

As much as I encourage juicing, it is quite time consuming and hard to do everyday, so I usually limit my juicing to only twice a week, but I have a green smoothie everyday to balance it out. If you don’t have a juicer, that’s okay! Green smoothies work just fine.

20131212-101913.jpg

I found this amazing chart above which I believe is an amazing guideline to follow, especially for those who are new to juicing. It tells you the health and nutritional benefits of each fruit and vegetable, so depending on what your body is craving, you can combine a whole bunch of these superfoods and create a healthy, cleansing, and refreshing juice 🙂

If you want more information about juicing and the type of juicers to purchase, you can locate it on my Blood Purifier Juice post. Cheers guys!

Recipe:

1 organic gala apple
2 organic navel oranges
1 organic zucchini
2 organic celery stalks
1 bunch organic parsley
A handful of organic mint leaves
Half a small cucumber
Half a lemon
Two organic kiwis (peeled)
A handful of organic baby carrots

Throw all ingredients in a juicer and juice away, then gulp until to reach ultimate satisfaction 🙂

Ahh yes! The one thing I look forward too after a night of sinful indulgences is a detox juice or smoothie. Although I don’t regret any of it, it’s always nice to give my body what it wants when it needs it, but it definitely needed this green smoothie! And heres why……

20131205-101953.jpg

Yup! This happened last night. I’m such a sucker for anything red velvet, and this definitely hit the spot. Luckily, I spent the evening with close friends who had no problem devouring this with me, but I still had left overs, so I will be bringing my trainer some yummy cake when I see her tonight! Plus it’s leg day, so she’ll be training my cakes while eating hers! Haha!

Recipe:

2 cups organic kale leaves
1 cup organic baby spinach
1 organic red apple
1/2 an organic lemon (juice)
3 organic strawberries
1 organic kiwi
5 organic cucumber slices
3 tbsp organic hemp seeds
2 tbsp organic chia seeds
2 cups organic unsweetened almond milk
Orange zest (optional)

Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Top with orange zest and gulp!

As it turns out, my birthday isn’t quite done yet because my friend is taking me out to dinner tonight! So I figured i’ll keep my meals light since I’m going to be working from my desk at the office. I threw together a quick and easy egg salad for lunch to keep me satisfied and also help with the detox, while adding to my daily dose of protein 😉 This lovely bowl contains organic field greens, red bell peppers, red onions, grape tomatoes, boiled eggs, a dash of lemon juice, coconut aminos, and a tiny sprinkle of sea salt.

It’s Friday once again, and after an intense weight and cardio session, I had to share my yummy post workout green smoothie with you. Although it’s been forever since I’ve posted a green smoothie, I still have one every single day, sometimes twice a day! You get twice the serving of your daily vegetable requirement than you would from salads, and we all know that it’s not always practical eating multiple salads every single day, even I don’t do that lol.

Green smoothies are a very convenient way to get your vegetables, and they can also be fun and delicious depending on how creative you get with your ingredients. They are a good source of fibre which promote healthy bowel movement and weight loss, and also contain vitamins and healing properties that strengthen your immune system, prevent certain cancers, provide plant based iron and magnesium for energy, healthy blood and strong bones, and a whole host of others! The possibilities are endless. Here is an amazing guide I found on Pinterest which will give you an idea on how to assemble a perfect green smoothie 🙂

Viola! Have a great weekend ❤️

Recipe:

2 cups organic kale leaves
1 cup organic baby spinach leaves
1 organic red gala apple
1 organic banana
1.5 tbsp organic dark chia seeds
1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior protein powder
1.5 cups organic unsweetened almond milk

Blend all ingredients in a blender and drink up your daily dose of awesomeness 🙂

PS: If you’re curious about the protein powder I use, I have a picture below. I use a raw plant based protein powder and it’s gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and GMO free! No artificial ingredients or preservatives. You can also purchase it at any health food stores or online.
